Friday night meal

Friday night special

Friday night suppers have always been my family’s tradition. The only night of the week in which we all sat around one table, clean and well dressed, to have a leisurely meal together. Our table clad in white, my parent’s excellent food was served on the “good” dishes, those we were not allowed to use on mere week days.

As we grew well into our charming teen years, my brother, my sister and I often rebelled against this “restrictive” custom. We always had “better” things to do on a Friday night. We never understood why our mother, usually a flexible, liberal parent, systematically refused to be “cool” and let us off the hook.  As I grew older I understood that as always, mother knows best. If there is one thing I sorely miss, living so far away from my family, its the Friday night supper. The quality family time accented by good food.

Since my family is definitely one of a kind, my attempts at recreating the same memories for my own family are concentrated on, you got it, the  food. I now fully understand that long hours in the kitchen, menu planning not included ( a different one each week!), tend to have a special side affect of uncoolness.

This week we had fish. Nice buttery sole fillets accompanied by many side dishes, as you can see in the pictures above.

Recipes will follow.

That one time you had me over for dinner in Montreal was amazing! We have to do this again when I go back!
